MindSafe is built on a fundamental principle: your mental health journey is deeply personal, and your data should remain yours alone. We designed MindSafe to be a privacy-first application, ensuring your journal entries, mood logs, and personal reflections stay private and secure.
Data Storage
Local-Only Storage
All your data is stored exclusively on your device. MindSafe does not have servers that collect, store, or process your personal information. Your journal entries, mood logs, habits, and settings never leave your device unless you explicitly choose to export them.
What We Store Locally

- Meditation and breathing session records
- App preferences and settings
- AI conversation history (if AI features are used)
What We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect personal identifiers
- We do not collect usage analytics
- We do not track your location
- We do not access your contacts, photos, or other device data
- We do not use advertising trackers
- We do not sell or share any data with third parties
Security
Device Security
MindSafe offers multiple layers of protection for your data:
- Passcode Protection: Set a 6-digit passcode to lock the app
- Biometric Authentication: Use Face ID or Touch ID for convenient, secure access
- Auto-Lock: Configure automatic locking when the app goes to the background
- Secure Storage: Sensitive data like your passcode is stored in the iOS Keychain, Apple’s secure credential storage system
Data Encryption
Your data benefits from iOS’s built-in encryption. When your device is locked, your MindSafe data is encrypted and protected by your device passcode.
AI Features (Optional)
OpenAI Integration
MindSafe offers optional AI-powered features including:
- AI Companion chat support
- Mood pattern insights
- Personalised coping suggestions
- Journal reflection prompts
How AI Features Work
- AI features require you to provide your own OpenAI API key
- Your API key is stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device
- When you use AI features, relevant context is sent to OpenAI’s servers for processing
- We do not have access to your API key or your AI conversations
- OpenAI’s data handling is subject to their privacy policy
Your Control
- AI features are entirely optional
- You can use MindSafe fully without enabling AI features
- You can remove your API key at any time from Settings
- AI conversation history is stored locally and can be deleted
Data Export
Your Data, Your Choice
MindSafe allows you to export your data in multiple formats:
- Journal entries as PDF
- Mood data as CSV
- Journal index as CSV
Export Privacy
- Exported files are created locally on your device
- You control where exported files are saved or shared
- We have no access to your exported data
Data Deletion
Complete Control
You can delete your data at any time:
- Delete individual journal entries or mood logs
- Clear all mood data
- Clear all journal entries
- Clear all data at once
When you delete data, it is permanently removed from your device. Since we don’t store your data on any servers, deletion is complete and irreversible.
App Removal
If you delete the MindSafe app from your device, all associated data is permanently deleted.
Children’s Privacy
MindSafe is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided information through our app, please contact us.
Third-Party Services
Apple Services
MindSafe uses standard iOS frameworks and may interact with:
- iOS Keychain for secure credential storage
- Local Notifications for reminders (with your permission)
No Cloud Sync
MindSafe explicitly disables iCloud sync. Your data does not sync to iCloud or any cloud service.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
Your Rights
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: All your data is visible within the app
- Export: Export your data at any time
- Delete: Delete any or all of your data at any time
- Portability: Export your data in standard formats (PDF, CSV)
